BACKGROUND: http://americanhorrorstory.wikia.com/wiki/Madison_Montgomery

After the events of Salem, the coven of witches formed there moved down to New Orleans, fearing for their safety. There, they founded Miss Robichaux’s Academy to teach and look after young witches, under the careful, caring eye of the most powerful witch, the Supreme. Generations have passed; Supremes have risen and fallen. It is under the reign of Fiona Goode that our story begins.

Madison is one of the few witches attending the school, and definitely one of the most powerful. She has an antagonistic relationship with almost every character, particularly with Queenie, who she has actively fought with, but especially with Fiona. Fiona thought that, as Madison’s powers started to grow, that she would end up being the Supreme to unseat her; to protect herself, she kills Madison and hides the body.

Her relationship with, ostensibly, the main character of the series, Zoe Benson, is a bit more complicated than that. She starts out with a sort of tenuous friendship with Zoe, though Zoe recognizes Madison is not a nice person. They bring back Zoe’s crush, Kyle, after Madison accidentally killed him, and he becomes the catalyst for their true falling out. After Madison is brought back from the dead-- thanks to Zoe’s efforts-- she begins a sexual relationship with both Kyle and Zoe, with the girls sort of “sharing” him. However, Zoe and Kyle fall in love, leaving Madison on the outs. Thus, she hates her, too.

PERSONALITY: Madison is a fallen child star. Ever since she was a young child, she was the main breadwinner of her family. Her mother was a drug addict and her father an “asshole,” and she didn’t find much success with regards to personal relationships outside of her family; most everyone, from supposed friends to those she’s been intimate with, have used her for whatever she would give them. She’s thus almost completely unable to form emotional connections with other people. She treats most people cruelly, even those she claims to like, using emotional abuse to push others away.

As a celebrity, she’s also used to everything going her way. She doesn’t take criticism well; the whole reason she’s been sent to Miss Robichaux’s in the first place is because she dropped a lighting fixture on a director that was yelling at her. She’s vain and self-centered, seeing herself as not only a drop-dead gorgeous, perfect person, but also the most powerful witch around and the clear contender for Supreme.

She’s one of those asshole atheists that considers believers stupid and foolish, and is definite in her lack of belief-- and, unfortunately for her, she turns out to be right. There’s no Heaven or Hell in the Coven universe, just cold nothingness, and that’s what Madison was sent to after her death. Her time in the darkness of the afterworld has left her with a literal inability to feel any sensation; for someone who’s been trying to be numb and indifferent to the world for most of her life, she doesn’t handle it well. She becomes the opposite of herself in life, desperate to feel anything at all: gorging on food, burning her flesh with a lighter, drinking unlabeled potions, fucking her “best friend’s” undead boyfriend. The sudden return to the full sensations of life will probably be a little overwhelming, and she’ll want to indulge even more than usual.

Madison has a tendency to crack constant, terrible jokes about everything that happens in her life. She pokes fun at her own murder only a few hours after being resurrected; her first scene in the series involved her pulling a “hilarious” prank on Zoe by pretending to be a cultist sacrificing her to the Devil. There are only a few things she doesn’t joke about (i.e. her assault); for those things, she simply acts as if it never happened.

POWER: As a witch, Madison has multiple powers under the title of the Seven Wonders. Here, she will have three: telekinesis, the ability to manipulate objects with her mind; pyrokinesis, the ability to conjure and control fire with her mind; and transmutation, the ability to move from one place to the other instantly.
